What actually makes a security door secure
"Security door" is not a protected term: anything with bars can be sold as one. The difference is in five places, and you can check every one of them on any door you are quoted.

The frame
Heavy-gauge aluminium or steel, with corners that are joined mechanically, not just mitred and glued. A door is only as strong as the rectangle holding it.

The infill
Stainless-steel mesh, structural grille or perforated sheet. Marine-grade stainless matters near the coast: Newcastle sea air corrodes cheap mesh in a few years.

The locks
A triple-lock throws bolts at the top, middle and bottom of the door, so force on one corner cannot lever it open. A single centre latch is the weakest point of most budget doors.

The hinges
Three fixed-pin hinges minimum. Hinges with removable pins on the outside undo the whole door, whatever the lock cost.

The fixing
The door is screwed into the structure of the opening, not just the architrave. This is why measure and install matter as much as the door itself.
